Early Life

Vikas Dubey was a resident of Bikaru in Chaubepur block of Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh. He formed his gang in his youth. He was responsible for many criminal activities including murder, abduction and land grabbing. At the age of just 20, Vikas Dubey was dragged to the police station for the first time after beating some people belonging to another caste who insulted his father. However, the local police left him without warning and registered a case. Dubey soon became one of the most wanted criminals in Kanpur. The first case against him was registered for murder in 1990. In 1992, Vikas hit the headlines by killing two Dalit men. This was the first murder case registered against him at Chaubepur police station in Kanpur. Soon after, he added himself as a close associate of the politician Harikishan Srivastava. Srivastava was then part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the mid-1990s. Dubey also joined the BSP in 1995-96 and allegedly won elections at the district level by force. His wife Richa Dubey has also won the local body elections. In 2001, Dubey allegedly shot Santok Shukla, a BJP leader, on a chase inside Shivli police station in Kanpur Dehat. He was named in the FIR and surrendered after six months, but was acquitted after four years. Almost everyone gave statements in favor of the gangster. He was known as Vikas Pandit, whose name was inspired by the 1999 film Arjun Pandit, Vikas Dubey started calling himself Pandit. .

How Dubey Killed 8 Policemen?

On Friday, 3 July 2020, when a large team of policemen arrived at the village of Dubey to arrest Dubey and his men accused of an attempted murder, Dubey and his companions already ambushed and attacked the police, Where eight policemen including a Superintendent of Police (DSP) were killed, while seven policemen were injured.

In his companions, one of Dubey's maternal uncle and another of his close relatives died in a police encounter. The autopsy report revealed that DSP Devendra Mishra was brutally beaten with an ax, while other policemen had multiple weapons, including a handgun, including a weapon. Police later recovered other weapons, including a weapon-47 rifle and an INSAS rifle.

The Inspector General of Police of Kanpur said that at least 60 people ambushed the police team, numbering only 30. Call records revealed that Dubey was in contact with several policemen who leaked information to him. Subsequently, the Kanpur administration demolished her house with a bulldozer. 25 police teams were formed to arrest Dubey and his associates.

Political Solicitude

As every criminal does, Vikas Dubey was also trying every way to get into politics. He was possibly preparing to contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022 on a BSP ticket, but given the current political taste of Uttar Pradesh, Vikas Dubey was trying to go to the BJP together. Some local reports suggest that his entry into the BJP was being "blocked" by a national-level party leader. His only motive was to become an MLA. However, Vikas Dubey had no knowledge of politics. His rise in the world of crime came through political support.

Hari Kishan Srivastava was a Janata Dal MLA from Chaubepur in 2012. In 2012, Vikas Dubey declared Hari Kishan Srivastava as his political guru. This incident made him "domineering" of his village Bikaru. Over the years, he dominated the dozens of villages in the region with around 1 lakh voters. It formed a powerful relationship with politicians, who sought votes in exchange for the protection of the law during every election. That is why he continued to be released on bail despite the number of serious crime cases against him. His last bail was secured in 2018 when he had more than 60 criminal cases against him.

For 20 years, he was the de facto voter in the panchayat. Locals have been quoted in various news reports as saying that Vikas Dubey will decide who will contest the panchayat elections in his Bikaru village, and the candidate will win unopposed. At the time of Santosh Shukla's murder, Vikas Dubey was a member of the District Panchayat - from Ghimau (2000–05). It became a reserved seat in 2005, after which Vikas Dubey was elected to his "Male" Zilla Panchayat by 2015. In 2015, this seat was reserved for women.

Vikas Dubey's wife, Richa - now in police custody - "as the first day of winning the seat, Vikas Dubey and his gangman visited the constituency, asking people to vote for him". Richa had no need to campaign.

Arrest and Death

Vikas Dubey had to face the story of jail many times. Dubey was arrested in 2017. The Uttar Pradesh government registered a case against him under the Gangster Act and the Anti-Social Activities Act. He challenged it in the High Court but did not order any concrete action against him. His political career had become his strength. He was caught again on 9 July 2020 near the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Orders to kill were out on shoot and sight. He is reported to have shouted his name "I am Vikas Dubey Hoon" several times while being arrested at the rate of killing. Later that night a petition was filed in the Supreme Court requesting protection for him and a CBI probe into a series of murders.

Vikas Dubey Arrested

On 10 July, the vehicle carrying Dubey was involved in a road accident and overturned. Dubey allegedly snatched a pistol from a policeman in an attempt to fix a flat tire and tried to flee before being killed by the Uttar Pradesh police.
